Narayan Nagbali puja in Ayodhya for the peace of ancestors, performed at Sautha Laxmi Mandir.
Narayan Nagbali puja is performed to fulfil the unmet wishes of ancestors. It has three parts: Narayan puja, in which Lord Vishnu is worshipped; Nagbali puja, in which a snake idol is worshipped; and Ganesh puja, in which Lord Ganesh is worshipped. Tradition prescribes it after unnatural deaths such as accident, suicide or snake bite. Such souls are believed to remain bound to this world by desires that stay with them after death, and the puja is meant to pacify them. It is held at Sautha Laxmi Mandir. A sankalp is taken in the devotee's name, and the pujari invokes Lord Vishnu with mantras and prayers. Offerings such as rice balls, kumkum and gulaal are made following Vedic rituals. The puja ends with the taking of blessings.
Devotees believe the puja helps ancestors find freedom from unfulfilled desires and attain salvation. It is said to ease Pitru dosh. It is traditionally linked with peace and prosperity. It is believed to protect from negative energy, purify mind and body and take away fear.
