A Mool Nakshatra Shanti puja in Ujjain for those born under a Gand Mool Nakshatra, with Ganesh Puja, Kalash Sthapana and Navagraha Puja.
This puja goes by three names: Mool Nakshatra Shanti, Gand Mool Nakshatra Shanti and Sataisa Puja. It is performed for people born under one of six Gand Mool Nakshatras: Revati, Moola, Jyeshtha, Magha, Ashlesha and Ashwini. It seeks peace, prosperity and protection for the individual and family by appeasing the deities and planets of these nakshatras. Vedic astrology counts 27 Nakshatras. Mool is the 19th, ruled by Ketu, and falls in Sagittarius. Births under it are said to carry karmic challenges unless pacified by ritual. The puja is considered especially important when a child is born in the first pada of Moola Nakshatra. Families usually hold it around the child's 27th day or first birthday. Ganesh Puja opens the ritual, followed by Kalash Sthapana and Navagraha Puja. The core of the ritual is Mool Shanti mantra chanting and offerings to the planets and deities. The priest studies the child's horoscope to calm any troubled planets, and Lord Ketu receives special prayers. Charity is part of the rite: feeding Brahmins and giving clothes or donations. Ideally it is conducted by a priest, either at a holy temple or in the family home.
