Vish Dosh Nivaran Puja Ujjain

About this puja

A one-hour puja at Ram Ghat on the Shipra, Ujjain, for Vish Dosh, the Shani and Chandra conjunction.

Vish Dosh Nivaran Puja, also known as Shani Chandra Vish Yog Puja, is performed at Ram Ghat on the Shipra river in Ujjain. Vish Dosh is said to form when Shani (Saturn) and Chandra (Moon) come together in a birth chart. The word Vish translates as poison, and the Moon stands for the mind. Tradition links the yog with unease, fear and repeated obstacles in career and personal life despite hard work. The puja starts with Ganesh Pujan and Kalash Sthapana. Navagraha Shanti Pujan follows, then a Chandra Grah Shanti Puja and a Shani Grah Shanti Puja with Vedic mantras. A havan is then performed, with offerings made into the fire while mantras are chanted. The puja closes with aarti, and the devotee takes the blessings. Ujjain is the city of Lord Shiva and home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. Devotees believe the setting adds strength to dosh-related rituals, and that the puja supports clarity of mind and inner peace.
