Rudrabhishek With Rudrashtadhyayi In Ujjain

About this puja

Rudrabhishek with recitation of the eight-chapter Rudrashtadhyayi at Pardeshwar Mahadev Temple, Ujjain.

Rudrabhishek with Rudrashtadhyayi is a special worship of Lord Shiva at Pardeshwar Mahadev Temple, Ujjain. The Rudrashtadhyayi is a set of prayers to Shiva, with mantras and verses in 8 chapters. Chanting it in Ujjain is considered highly auspicious. Two Brahmins perform the full ritual. The puja begins with Shri Ganpati Pujan to ask for obstacles to be cleared. Lord Kartikeya, Maa Jagdamba and Lord Shiva are then worshipped. The Rudrashtadhyayi is recited during the complete Rudrabhishek, as milk, water, honey and curd are poured on the Shivling, with ghee, sugar and bilva leaves. A devotional Aarti follows, asking Lord Mahakal for peace, prosperity and spiritual well-being. Ujjain is the city of the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, and Rudrabhishek here is regarded as one of the most powerful rites for Shiva devotees.
