Worship of the nine planets with sankalp, mantras, Ganesh puja and havan in Ujjain.
Navgrah Puja and Havan is the worship of the nine grahas. These are Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangal (Mars), Budh (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu and Ketu. The ritual goes back to Vedic times. In Ujjain, Navgrah Shanti Puja is performed to ease the difficult effects of the planets and strengthen their favourable ones. A tradition says Lord Vishnu told Lord Shiva that whoever worships the Navgraha properly gains all four purusharthas: dharma, artha, kaam and moksha. The puja starts with a Sankalp in the devotee's name and mantras calling the nine grahas. Lord Ganesh and the Navgrah are then worshipped. A havan is offered for each graha, and the puja ends with Aarti to receive their blessings.
Devotees believe it brings prosperity and peace of mind. It is said to ease obstacles in work and daily life. It is traditionally performed to clear negative energy. It is also believed to strengthen the favourable planetary effects in the horoscope.
