Durga Saptashati samput path with daily Rudrabhishek and Chandi havan in Ujjain.
Navratri means nine nights. Goddess Durga has nine forms, and each day is given to one of them. These are Maa Shailputri and Maa Brahmacharini, then Maa Chandraghanta and Maa Kushmanda, then Maa Skandamata and Maa Katyayani, and finally Maa Kalaratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri. The festival recalls the battle between Goddess Durga and Mahishasur. She is known as Shakti, the power behind creation. The Chandi Havan, also called Mata Chandi Yagya, worships her as Goddess Chandi and is one of the most powerful rituals in the tradition. It stands for the victory of good over evil. In Ujjain, a sankalp is taken in the devotees' names and the pujari invokes Goddess Durga. All nine forms are worshipped each day. The Chandi path is recited, and the pujari also performs Rudrabhishek every day. A hawan is performed at the end, on the last day of the puja.
Devotees seek the Goddess's blessings for protection from evil forces and for spiritual growth. They also pray for clearing obstacles and for wishes to be fulfilled. The havan is associated with peace, prosperity and success. It is said to bless devotees with intelligence. It is also linked with happiness.
