Tripindi Shradh In Ayodhya

About this puja

Tripindi Shradh in Ayodhya, offering three pinds to three generations of ancestors.

Tripindi Shradh is performed to bring peace to ancestors whose desires remained unmet at death, or who did not receive proper rites. It is believed to ease Pitru Dosh. Three pinds are offered to three generations of ancestors. The puja can be performed at any holy place, and here it is held at Sautha Laxmi Temple or Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya. The ritual is observed after a holy-river bath, in white clothes. A sankalp is taken in the devotees' names, and reciting the Gayatri Mantra is the most important part. Rice, ghee, sugar, water with black sesame seeds, kusha grass and white flowers are offered to the ancestors. Sweets and clothes are given to the pujari, facing south. Food is then shared with a crow, a cow, ants and dogs, and the puja is complete.
