Narayan Bali Puja In Varanasi

About this puja

A Vedic ritual at Pishach Mochan Kund, Varanasi, for peace and liberation of departed souls and relief from Pitru Dosha.

Narayan Bali Puja is performed for the peace and liberation of departed souls who may not have had proper last rites. It is also done for ancestors with unfulfilled wishes. Tradition holds that it helps settle Pitru Dosha and ancestral obstacles, and brings harmony to the family. In Varanasi it is held at Pishach Mochan Kund. The puja begins with Pitru Avahan, Dhyan and Pujan, in which the ancestors are respectfully invoked. Shaligram Pujan follows, worshipping Lord Vishnu for purity, protection and liberation of the departed. The Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra Sukta are then recited, calling on the Trimurti for ancestral peace. Next is Panch Kalash Pujan (the Dev, Manushya and Pitri Kalash along with the prescribed Kalash worship), followed by Pitri Tarpan, the offering of water. The ceremony closes with a Vedic havan and a visarjan, with prayers for the eternal peace of the departed.
