Kaal Sharp Dosh Puja In Varanasi

About this puja

A puja to calm Rahu and Ketu for Kaal Sarp Dosh, performed in Varanasi at Maha Mrityunjay Mandir, Dashashwamedh Ghat or Assi Ghat.

Kaal Sarp Dosh is a condition in Vedic astrology said to arise when all seven planets sit between Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart. People link it with ongoing struggles despite hard work, and with signs such as dreams of snakes or ancestors. This puja can be performed at Maha Mrityunjay Mandir on the Ganga bank, at Dashashwamedh Ghat or at Assi Ghat. The pandit takes Sankalp in the devotee's name and worships Lord Ganesh first, to clear the way. A kalash is set up to stand for divine energy. The priest then chants mantras to pacify Rahu and Ketu, and Nag Nagin is worshipped. The puja ends with aarti and the devotee takes blessings.

Why devotees perform it

Varanasi is the abode of Lord Shiva, who is held to have authority over serpent energies, Rahu and Ketu, so devotees consider the puja especially fitting here. Traditionally performed for stability in career, finances and marriage. Devotees believe it eases sudden obstacles in promotion or job security, and repeated financial loss. Said to bring peace of mind, ease fear of failure and support clear decisions. Believed to ease unexplained conflict between couples, and delays in marriage.
