11 Brahman Bhojan is the ritual of serving a meal to eleven Brahmins with devotion. Tradition says that when Brahmins are fed, the deities are pleased and blessings follow. It is often done after other pujas and ceremonies, for the fulfilment of wishes and the easing of obstacles. The ritual begins with a sankalp, a vow made on behalf of the devotees. The Brahmins are welcomed and seated, and their feet are washed with respect. The meal is made with devotion and includes rice, dal, vegetables, sweets and fruits. Once everyone has eaten, dakshina is offered and their blessings are sought.
Devotees believe it helps ease obstacles and negative energies. It is said to bring peace, well-being and happiness to the family. The blessings of the Brahmins are held to support prosperity and good fortune. Many see feeding Brahmins as equal to serving God.
