History
Chintaman Ganesh stands on the Fatehabad railway line, across the Shipra and about 7 km south-west of central Ujjain. The present temple is believed to date from the 11th–12th century, when the Paramara dynasty ruled Malwa, while local tradition traces its origin much further back, to the Ramayana, saying Mata Sita herself established the deity. "Chintaman" means the one who frees his devotees from worry, and families often come here before weddings and new ventures. Ganesh Chaturthi is the biggest celebration, along with Diwali, Holi and Navratri.
